Mairead Farrell RIP

Nevertheless after much toing and froing from the prison,the hungerstrike began on October 27th with the seven refusing food in a fast to the death.The hunger-strikers were later joined on December 1st by three republican prisoners from Armagh women’s jail, one of whom Mairead Farrell, was killed by the S.A.S in Gibraltar in 1988. She was joined by Mairead Nugent and Mary Doyle.

The two legendary Volunteers and IRA comrades Jim Bryson and Patrick Mulvenna were ambushed by the British Army in Ballymurphy on 31 August 1973. The British troops were hiding in a secret observation post above the shops in the Bullring when they opened fire.
Paddy Mulvenna died instantly. Two other Volunteers, including Jim, were seriously wounded. Jim Bryson died from his wounds on 22 September 1973.
