DEPUTY FIRST MINISTER ATTENDS HEARING ON BEHALF OF PRICE

DEPUTY First Minister Martin McGuinness has attended a hearing by Parole Commissioners on behalf of Marian Price who was sent back to jail after her licence was revoked for IRA offences in England 40 years ago.

Justice Shredded is Justice Denied

Then Secretary of State Owen Patterson revoked her life sentence licence after Price was charged over a dissident republican rally in Derry’s City Cemetery in Easter 2011. She is also facing separate charges of providing a mobile phone for a terrorist purpose in March 2009 shortly before two soldiers were shot dead at Massereene barracks in Antrim. The 58-year-old is now under armed guard at Belfast City Hospital where she is being treated for depression, arthritis and lung problems. Last month she was granted three hours ‘ compassionate bail to attend the wake of her sister Dolours, who along with Marian Price – whose married name is McGlinchey – and MLA Gerry Kelly – was part of an IRA unit which bombed London in 1973.

Yesterday, at a closed court in the Laganside complex in Belfast, Parole Commissioners listened to submissions from Marian Price’s lawyers who argued that she should be released. A spokesman for the commissioners said they could not make any comment on the hearing. As he left the court, Mr McGuinness also said he could not say anything about what happened behind closed doors. It is understood he visited Price in hospital yesterday morning. It is not known when the commissioners will make their ruling on Price’s case.

SET HER FREE - RELEASE MARIAN NOW

The decision by the British Injustice system to keep Marian Price incarcerated following the death of her sister Dolours is disgraceful, though not surprising given their history of anti Irish sentiment and their blatant miscarriages of justice that are recognised worldwide.
Marian Price was jailed purely and simply as a scapegoat for the British government and a sop to Unionists: Not as they’d have you think for anything relating to justice.
She was granted a pardon in 1981 and released.. This pardon which would have proved that she had been released on behalf of this and not the license system was subsequently and admittedly destroyed by the British. The ramifications of a government subverting justice systems through the systematic destruction of evidence cannot be stressed enough. This weekend we will once again take to the streets in memory of those murdered by the British army on behalf of the British government. We can once again see that 41 years on, civil rights are still a privilege for a chosen section of the community as opposed to parity for all.Marian price, like Gerry Mc Geough, like Martin Corey and countless others have been excluded from proper justice, removed and incarcerated….Interned!
We ask people to make themselves heard… It is an absolute disgrace that Marian cannot grieve her sister.. Having once again been granted bail, the bitter sectarian system once again closed ranks to ensure that they could attribute blame without trial..
Demand that Marian be released! End British injustice! End British Internment!Rest in Peace Dolours..

PRICE CASE COULD BE HEARD IN HOSPITAL

A DISTRICT judge said on Wednesday he had the power to convine a court hearing involving former IRA prisoner Marian Price in hospital where she is being treated.

Judge Barney McElholm said the preliminary could only take place if ” private  appropriate, secure and suitable accommodation ” could be made available. Price – now known by her married name McGlinchey – has been in custody since being arrested in May 2011 after then Secretary of State, Owen Paterson, revoked her early release licence. She was previously jailed for her part in an IRA bombing campaign along with Gerry Kelly in London including the Old Bailey in 1973 and went on hunger strike in prison. The 58-year-old was arrested a month after she was filmed holding up a piece of paper for a masked man to read from at a dissident republican Easter commemoration in Derry’s city cemetery. Price, who has been charged with addressing a meeting held to support the IRA, has been in deteriorating mental and physical health since her arrest. Her solicitor Peter Corrigan said she should be released. ” The deterioration in her mental health has been exacerbated by the prosecution of the charge against her,” he said. However, a prosecution lawyer told the court that if ” all the appropriate measures ” in relation to transportation and security were in place, there was no reason why the hearing could not proceed. The district judge adjourned his decision on whether the hospital hearing would go ahead but said he would give it ” as soon as possible “. Among those in court to support Price was Gerry Conlon who was wrongly jailed for the Guildford pub bombings in the 1970’s.
