AN ENGINEER accused of reactivating weaponry for dissident republicans allegedly out of fear for his family is to stand trial in February.

Bryan Christopher McManus (56) was arraigned last Friday and pleaded not guilty to nine terrorist-related charges including possessing a variety of weapons and gun parts with intent to endanger life and under suspicious circumstances. He also denied conspiring to possess and convert weapons between September 2007 and September 2010. Mr McManus, from Aileen Terrace in Newry, Co Down, was freed on continuing bail ahead of his trial in February. While no details surrounding the case were given in court, an earlier bail hearing was told that a weapons ‘ cache, including component parts for revolvers, pistols, a walking stick converted into a gun and ammunition were allegedly uncovered in a search of the engineer’s home. Mr McManus, the court had heard, allegedly admitted working on behalf of people he believed were dissident republican terrorists connected to the Real IRA.
