A NUMBER of security alerts across south Belfast yesterday caused significant traffic problems and forced some homes to be evacuated.
Police attended four alerts in the Lisburn Road and Dunmurry areas. Searches of two garages and train stations at Dunmurry and Lambeg were carried out after a claim that devices were left in four locations. The Upper Lisburn Road, between Finaghy Road and Black’s Road, was closed to traffic for a number of hours, hampering motorists exiting the M1 at the Black’s Road offslip. The road was reopened shortly after 5pm after nothing was found in any of the locations. However, police asked members of the public to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.
